Letter from the 2024 President - Torry Johnson

Dear Fellow Homeowners

 

My name is Torry Johnson, and I have agreed to be your fearless leader for 2024. Please send prayers my way!

 

My husband, Sandy, and I are relatively new to Tubac. But, never afraid of a challenge, I agreed to become the TVPOA Secretary in 2022. Later that year, Sandy stepped up to the plate by joining the Tubac Fire District Board. We are very much in a space of giving back to the community while we still can!

 

I’ve been part of both residential and commercial property owners’ associations in the past and I understand how vital they are to protecting our investments. Without an HOA that provides the right amount of vigilance - without being onerous - the value of a property can be materially impacted.

 

I have two goals this year. The first is to provide our roads with the attention they so desperately need. That attention begins with addressing a number of private driveways and swales that are causing water to erode the edges of our roads. The Roads Committee will be approaching individual homeowners this spring to have these issues remediated prior to road resurfacing. I am hoping this can be accomplished by the end of the year so we can begin resurfacing in 2025.

 

My second goal is to increase our volunteer ranks. Paul Plett has graciously agreed to return to the Board and become our new Road Czar.  And Bob Schmitz is a newly minted member of the Architecture Committee. But we are running lean, and I’d like to see the numbers improve.

 

TVPOA is fortunate in that we are still volunteer run. And we are getting better at bringing on independent contractors to support us. But at the end of the day, we still rely on volunteers. We have been lucky so far.  We’ve been able to manage the community without the need of a professional Community Manager. Doing so would cause our annual fees to rise substantially and I don’t think anyone wants to go there.
